Dig In With Much Bites: Warm Up This Winter With Huo Guo

In the spirit of Madrid and its new found route to cosmopolitanism, a new Chinese restaurant going by the name of Casa Lafu opened a few months back. Located in almost plain sight of Calle Gran Vía, just after Santo Domingo Metro Station, it is not to be missed. Given the recent changes in weather, after months of a seemingly never ending summer, this restaurant brings a welcome winter warmer.

Dig In With Much Bites: Eating Out in Madrid — The Vegetarian Edition

To be honest, I had never explored the vegetarian side of life. If someone told me that they were vegetarian, my usual reaction would usually go along the lines of “what do you mean you don’t eat no meat!?” Not that vegetarianism is a problem, just that I was always brought up to believe a meal was incomplete if it did not contain some type of meat based protein. Being in Madrid does not help either.

Mola Mucho: Modern Fusion with Nanai Restaurante y Espacio Cultural

Nanai is so much more than a restaurant: it’s a cultural center complete with a fabulous dining experience. The decor is fresh, and fun, and the layout is open. Mola Mucho: The Big Banh — Vietnamese Sandwiches with a Twist

Malasaña is a gem of a neighborhood, and if I tried to keep up with every new boutique, restaurant, or café I’d literally go mad, or broke…  which would inevitably drive me mad. There’s just so much goodness in that neighborhood, and like the greedy Pokemon that I am, I have an intense desire to catch (read: eat) them all!

Mola Mucho: Slow Mex Mexican Restaurant

Madrid, you never cease to amaze me. There’s no shortage of restaurants in this city; however, I am a true believer in quality over quantity. Every dining experience won’t be perfect, but when I’m spending my hard-earned euros, and setting aside time out of my day, I think it’s more than fair to have certain standards and expectations. I expect friendly and knowledgeable staff, ambiance, and fresh food for a reasonable price.  I’m so pleased to say that my dining experience at Slow Mex, a new restaurant on Calle San Vicente Ferrer, was absolute perfection.

Mola Mucho: Desperate Literature

Desperate Literature made me feel desperate as well: desperate for more money to be able to buy all the titles that struck my attention; desperate for more time to read and get lost in the words of others; and desperate, probably the most desperate of all, to read in not just Spanish and English, but French and Portuguese, to read some of my favorite authors in their mother tongue. Desperation is a funny thing: it inspires, and acts as a driving force, once you make it through that period of fear and uncertainty.
