Event Recap: LMDES Social

Las Morenas de España recently just turned one and we wanted to celebrate. There's something beautiful about bringing an online community together in real life to congregate, converse, meet new friends and catch up with old.  The evening brought in women who have been living all over the country for over 10 years, to those who just moved earlier in the week as well as some who were just in town visiting for the weekend but knew that they needed to be in the space.

We hosted the event at Saporem Restaurant in Chueca in their lovely indoor terrace, where the menu included delicacies like baked goat cheese with honey, croquetas, tortilla de patatas with caramelized onions and much more.  The room was filled with great vibes, meaningful conversation and women slaying in all white. Needless to say, everyone left feeling inspired and a bit more at home.

We also had a ton of giveaways to spread the love. Ebony won an appetizer and two meals at Slow Mex Restaurante. Alisha won a beer tasting for two at Palma Brew.  Anita won a beauty kit with Kimo Bentley. Tanisha received 3 bottles of wine from Nicole Taste and Travel

During the past month, we also hosted a few competitions in collaboration with our partners at Trip4Real and DevourSpain. Jen won a free Huertas tour with Devour Spain and Nikki won a guided activity or tour with Trip4Real.

Get a sneak peek of what went down at the social and hear what some of the attendees had to say below!

I was overwhelmed, in a very good way, to see, hear, and speak to beautiful women of color who are achieving their dreams and goals in life to become a better citizen in this world by getting to know other cultures. Also, I am truly proud of our race and gender and last night was like the cherry on top.

I was honored to be in a room full of inspiring and thriving black women. The energy in the beautifully decorated and lit. Saporem Restaurant was amazing! I was overjoyed to share that moment with so many of the other ladies. I met some new ladies and even got a chance to reconnect and talk to some ladies who I haven’t seen in a while. The all white was breathtaking. I saw no other color that would fit once I walked into the room. As a fairly new vegetarian, I appreciated the food choices. They were light and bright with color, and the taste was x10.

It was just so nice to be surrounded by other beautiful, intelligent black women who were brave enough to take the plunge and venture off to Spain to follow their dreams. It felt like home (away from home.)

I just spent the evening with a group of dynamic black women living in Spain — some for weeks, others for years. We talked about work, challenges, fears, stereotypes, invisibility, history, the future, love, food, wine, hair, goals, trips and just life in general. I’m so grateful to just have been in the room. With them.
