Summer Hustle: 6 Fun Plans For Under 20 Euros

Summer is coming. That means scorching hot days, somewhat cool evenings; terraces, cañas, rooftops, oh and no money until the next academic year! Does that mean that the fun should stop? Hell no! United we stand however broke and sweaty, we will overcome!

Madrid is a city that is not only full of life, but full of ways to keep you entertained! Fortunately for us, it doesn't slow down too much during the summer months. Here are a few ideas to enjoy your time off with friends, alone, with bae, or your summertime fling!

Splish Splash I was Takin' a Bath

Please, take advantage of all the public pools located throughout the city! When the temperatures spike to 40 degrees, you'll want to have your local pool on speed dial, trust and believe.

Price: 5 Euros for adults 6 Euros on weekends

Views From the Top

Have you seen that big, metal needle looking thing in Moncloa? No, it's not someone's take on modern art. It's actually a "faro" or lighthouse thingy... okay, so we're not quite clear either, but what we do know is that the views from above are dope!

Price: 3 Euros

Exercise... Your Mind

Escape games are on trend, and let's face it: they're fun as heck! Grab 3-4 of your friends, and try something different! We know you've always wanted to prevent a zombie apocalypse, so here's your chance! We've tried Fox in a Box, and absolutely loved it! Here are a few other alternatives too!

Price: 15 Euros (per person)

Get Creative with Pinta en Copas!

Want to sit inside, away from the relentless heat, and paint stuff? Cool, so when are we going? Pinta en Copas, a  quaint space in Malasaña, is perfect for just that. Whether you're designing a piece for yourself, or someone special, it's a plain ole' science fact that art is good for the soul! So channel your inner Picasso, and get to work!

Price: 9 Euros to 35 Euros (depending on size of pottery)

Not So Picnic, Picnic

You could spend time trying all those recipes you've been hoarding on Pinterest, or you could make things easy on yourself. This is our version of a picnic, and it involves tiny, cheap sandwiches. If you've been living in Madrid for longer than 72 hours, than you've seen or heard of 100 Montaditos. Here's the deal: On Sunday and Wednesday, the whole menu is 1 euro (excluding drinks and salads) and you guessed it, there are 100 options! Everything ranging from savory to sweet is up for grabs. Although we're partial to their popcorn chicken (also 1 euro on the special days), the sandwiches... man, cheap sandwiches for the win! Now, head over to one of your favorite parks, and find a spot with some shade! Remember: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Price: 10 Euros (and eat like broke royalty)

Ditch the Heat!

You could also, however, tell the heat "Boy, bye" and head to Xanadú for some fun in the ... well, pretend snow? If you need me, that's where I'll be! Oh the joys of not sweating! There are tons of activities to do out there, but if you're looking to save money, we suggest a game of mini golf, or a couple rides on their zip line!  Some call it denial, I call it making the most out of a sweaty situation.

Price: 8 Euros to 25 Euros

Places that are usually free / host free activities

Campo de la Cebada in La Latina

Matadero Madrid

The Museums of Madrid offer free days and hours (Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen etc.)

Centro Cultural Conde Duque

Fundación Cultural Mapfre
