On October 21st, 20 dynamic creatives, entrepreneurs, students, teachers, and professionals gathered in Madrid for none other than to brunch, share and commingle. Not only did we get our fill of #hairgoals but we were also able to share our stories, wins, losses and lessons learned.
Magical is an understatement.
What Makes an LMDES Event so Special?
Although each and every woman who attends an LMDES event is unique in her own right, they all have something in common. These are women who are actively and earnestly seeking something more, better and greater. They investment in themselves because that fire for life, their curiosity for the unknown, and their desire to build community is simply that strong. They prioritize self-love, and the beauty that manifests when they're able to connect and vibe with other like-minded individuals. We welcome young and old; new expats and veterans; we embrace the nomads and travelers; LMDES is a living, breathing, thriving community of exceptional women from far and wide.
So, Why a Black Girl Magic Brunch?
This time around, we wanted to host an event that felt familiar, and brunch is just that! It's gives you that tingly feeling of nostalgia and excitement. Women from California to Georgia to Michigan to Philadelphia to South Africa; as well as Valencia and La Rioja came together to indulge in fresh-squeezed orange juice, tasty bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, avocado toast, and of course, pancakes with syrup and fresh strawberries. The meal ended with fresh granola, greek yogurt and fruit.
Throughout brunch, the talented Dago of DMÁ Internacional captured the smiles and slayage!
I think if I had to describe the Saturday morning brunch in one word, I'd say it was rejuvenating. We had women who had arrived just 2 short weeks ago to women who have been living in Spain for years. The best part was the overwhelming sense of empathy, understanding, and a genuine desire to connect, learn and grow.
That's the kinda magic that you cannot fake: it's either there or it's not.
Team LMDES would love to thank the women who support our mission to build a dynamic and thriving community and safe space for WOC in Spain. Without you all, LMDES would not be what it is today!
Thank you to the lovely venue that hosted us on Saturday, Maricastaña. The jams were flowing, and the lighting was... pardon my pun... lit! (See what I did there?)
A huge thank you to Lottie Lencería for sponsoring our amazing giveaway! One of the lucky attendees walked away with a private and personalized bra fitting as well as a gift certificate for one of the Freya bra and panty sets! This expat owned business specializes in harder-to-find sizes as well as helping women learn and find the correct bra size for their shape, size and lifestyle! Check them out!
All in all, the Black Girl Magic Brunch was just that: magic. Community is alive. It's visible. It's accessible. Thank you to each and every person who makes up the LMDES community, and a 'welcome' to those soon come.
